Scientific Eye Care & Time Management FAQ
"Anxin Learn" Time Management is not just a countdown tool, but designed strictly following WHO and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines. We aim to help you find the perfect balance between "Digital Learning" and "Vision Health".
1. Design Philosophy & Science
Q: What is our time limit standard based on?
A: Our core logic is based on internationally recognized vision protection rules:
Setting Basis:
- WHO Recommendation: Children 2-5 years old should not exceed 1 hour of screen time daily, preferably less.
- 20-20-20 Rule: Ophthalmologists suggest looking away at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes (we extended the break to 5 minutes in App for thorough relaxation).
Q: Why is "Forced Rest" more important than "Daily Limit"?
A: Studies show continuous eye use is the main cause of ciliary muscle spasm (pseudomyopia). Even if watching only 30 minutes a day, watching it all at once damages eyes far more than three 10-minute sessions. Thus, our priority:** Single Session Limit > Daily Total Limit**.
2. Daily Total Limit
Q: How is the daily quota calculated?
A: We use "Net Playback Time":
- Effective Timing: Only deducted when video is playing. Browsing covers, searching, or pausing consumes no time.
- Cross-video Accumulation: Counts for the whole day. Watching a 5-min science video then a 10-min cartoon consumes 15 minutes total.
- Auto Reset: Quota resets automatically at 00:00 daily.
Q: What happens when time runs out?
A: To enforce health principles, the App executes a strict circuit breaker:
- Stop Immediately: Player pauses and hides.
- Eye Care Screensaver: Screen is covered by full-screen "Rest Guide" to prevent focusing on details.
- Parent Channel: For special cases (like finishing a lesson ending), parents can temporarily add quota via simple arithmetic verification.
3. Forced Rest & 20-20-20 Mode
Q: How does Interval Break work?
A: This is the App's core eye care feature:
- Trigger: When continuous playback reaches set value (e.g., 20 mins), regardless of remaining daily quota, it forces enter Rest Mode.
- Effective Rest Monitoring: System has anti-cheat logic. If set to rest 10 mins and child tries to open App after 3 mins, system detects Rest Not Met, maintains lock, and continues countdown. Timer resets only when eyes leave screen long enough.
Q: What does the child see during rest?
A: Not just a black screen, we designed Visual Relaxation Guidance:
- Shows large color blocks or distance-gazing animations (e.g., Owl looking out window).
- With soothing sounds, guides child to switch from "Screen Focus" to "Ambient Awareness", blinking or looking away.
4. All-Age Setting Suggestions (Authority Guide)
Q: How should I set for my child's age?
A: Brain development and vision reserves differ by age. Suggested config based on WHO/AAP:
| Age Group | Daily Suggestion | Single Session | Rest Duration | Expert Advice (WHO/AAP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 - 18 Months (Infant) | 0 Mins (No Screen) | N/A | N/A | Brain Development Avoid screens except video calls. Use "Audio Only" mode. |
| 18 - 24 Months (Toddler) | < 20 Mins | ~10 Mins | N/A | Co-viewing Child shouldn't watch alone. Parents must accompany and explain. |
| 2 - 5 Years (Preschool) | 40 - 60 Mins | 15 - 20 Mins | ≥ 10 Mins | Vision Sensitive WHO strictly suggests < 1 hour. Critical period for myopia prevention. |
| 6 - 10 Years (Primary) | 60 - 90 Mins | 25 - 30 Mins | ≥ 5 Mins | Balance Deduct school screen time. Set "Evening Curfew" for sleep. |
| 11+ Years (Teen) | 90 - 120 Mins | 30 - 45 Mins | ≥ 5 Mins | Self-Management Focus on content selection. Negotiate rules with child. |
Tip: "Daily Suggestion" refers to TOTAL screen time (TV, iPad, etc.). If child watched TV today, lower App quota accordingly.
5. Data Security & Tips
Q: Will time records be lost if App crashes or I force close?
A: No. As a core feature, timing data is encrypted and saved locally with second-level frequency. Quota records remain accurate even after restart.
Q: How to reduce resistance to "Time's Up"?
A:
- Preview: Check remaining quota before giving device, and verbally agree: "15 mins left today, after this episode we play blocks."
- Role Model: When App prompts rest, parents can do eye exercises or look away with the child, turning "Passive Restriction" into "Parent-Child Interaction".
